Art Appreciation Series

Participate in a series of expansive dialogues on the ways art is defined and understood throughout time with senior curator Anke van Wagenberg.  Thematic Power Point presentations will be offered via zoom and will draw on highlights from the VBMA collection and masterpieces of art history. October 9: Categorizing Art. Delve into the varied forms art can take, with Christo and Jeanne-Claude as a case study.

October 16: Basics of Art History. Learn about the interpretive tools of the trade: form, content, iconography and style.

October 23: Valuing Art. Explore the value of art beyond monetary value, from intrinsic to patriotic.

October 30: Form Matters. Investigate the qualities of line, space, perspective, and color, drawing on Alexander Calder as a prime example.
