Film Studies 5 Beyond Sleepy Hollow: Stories of Early America and the Hudson River Valley

March 16 – April 13, 2021, 1:30 pm

The Hudson River Valley inspired artists to look closely at the natural world around them, and appreciate its beauty.  Themes of America’s “natural bounty” inspired painters, and also served as a springboard for writers and dramatists, who proved that painting with words could be equally powerful.  This series will spotlight people who contributed to our nation’s burgeoning literary sense of self.  During this time in America’s development and expansion, writers like Emily Dickenson, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Willa Cather, Edgar Allan Poe, and so many more, were putting their stamps on our literary legacy.  This series will be a mix of both drama and documentary cinema, to heighten our awareness, together with our excellent art exhibit, of things “early American.”
