Introduction to Colored Pencil Drawing

Ed Cortez, instructor

This 5-week class will introduce students to the basics of colored pencil drawing. Beginning with the basics of applying the pigment to the paper, the class will quickly move on to blending colors, shading, and creating texture, with the goal of creating vibrant pictures that have a painterly look to them. Students will also learn how to look at and describe what they see in order to facilitate the drawing process. Each class will include a guided drawing session that illustrates the principles and practices that were taught during the class. In addition to the four drawings each student will do during the first four classes, the last class will be devoted to drawing a picture of the students’ choosing.

Classes meet March 15 - April 12, Mondays 3:00 - 5:00 pm
