Tapestry 101

Morgan Kuster, instructor

This course introduces how to create a variety of weavings using a tapestry loom. Basic weaving techniques will lay a foundation for experimentation and exploring other weave structures. Get ready to experiment with unusual weaving materials and methods. From beginners to more experienced weavers, everyone will leave with a new skill. Weaving basics will be the foundation for the course as we delve into tapestry weaving and how to make patterns on the tapestry loom.

Each class session, students will share their work from the previous day, discuss works by fiber artists and weavers, both historical and contemporary, and explore new weaving techniques and practice creative expression. Sessions will build on each other as the class learns traditional weaving methods and expands to experimentation by examining what unexpected materials can be used to create a weaving.
