2022 Winter Guest Artist Workshop - Drawing Basics

Thursday February 3

10:30 AM  –  4:30 PM

Douglas David
All levels

This simple one-day drawing workshop will cover the “basics” of drawing, including composition and general sketching to get shapes and proportions correct; massing in large shapes; simple perspective for landscape/seascape; drawing various ellipses on vases, pitchers, bowls, and plates for floral/still lifes; point of-view; contour line; figure; and how to build into a streetscape and get the scale correct. Developed by requests of painting students, Douglas has assembled all the basic areas of drawing and what students need to know to make their paintings better and to correct problem areas. Whether students are taking this as a refresher or as their first drawing class, it will help give a better understanding of drawing. The entire class is done with pencil in notebooks/ sketchbooks and will include lots of presentation, demonstration, and workbook-type exercises to help students understand and comprehend ideas and techniques.

Workshop meets at VBMA in Studios 2 and 3
