Artist Practice: Sketchbooks

Morgan Kuster, instructor

What does a thriving artist practice look like? Begin developing or continue developing your artist practice. Delve into how something as simple as a sketchbook can help your creativity flourish! The goal of this course is for students to cultivate their personal artistic practice using one of the most basic of tools: a sketchbook. Each week students will complete creative challenges, explore new prompts, and gain technical skills. Each week an artist practice assignment is assigned that will challenge students to think critically about the artwork they are making as well as help improve visual representation and artful thinking skills. Each class session, students will share their practice from the previous week, take a look into artworks new and old for discussion and inspiration, and dive into a fresh challenge. Get ready to lay the foundation for a successful artist practice and build on skills each week. At the end of this course, students will have strengthened and developed their technical skills, learned strategies to push through artist’s block, advance their creative habits, and an eye to draw inspiration from unexpected sources.
